about

This is my take on a basic rag in C, one countless old-timey artists have recorded over the years (think "Old Black Dog", "Don't Let Your Deal Go Down", etc). I recorded this in my living-room. You can hear my oldest daughter (6-years old) at several points. And no, she's not excited about my playing: she's yelping with delight because she's playing with her new Nintendo DS. hehe. The song ends abruptly when my wife and other daughter (4-years old) arrive back home and ring the doorbell. This was the only take I was able to do, which was fine, because I had no idea how to end the song anyway. :-)

The song's title is a line in one of my favourite books of all-time: "The Foot Book" by Dr. Seuss. It was the first book I could ever read by myself when I was a little boy! I read it to my youngest daughter the other day and it occurred to me that the line would make a fine title for an instrumental.

about

Deaf Steever Winnipeg, Manitoba

I try to come up with ideas and riffs that catch my ear, and then I piece 'em together until something (hopefully) slightly catchy and coherent emerges. I reckon that sums up my approach to songwriting. :-)

"Well, sir, I just make it sound like I think it ought to." - Mississippi John Hurt, when asked how he created his songs.

Cheers from Winnipeg, Canada, y'all! Go, Jets, go!!!
