about

A while back, benjo wrote some lyrics (see fiftyninety.fawmers.org/song/12106). I read 'em and a 1960's folk-pop-like tune instantly took root in my head. I asked benjo for permission to use his lyrics (which I tinkered with to fit what I had in mind for the song) and here we are. Ta-dah!

lyrics

I KNEW THAT'S WHAT YOU'D DO

you'd take her out to restaurants
and get her anything she wants
I knew, I knew that’s what you’d do

take her coat pull out her chair
make people think you really cared
I knew, I knew that’s what you’d do

you'd lie n cheat and just blame her
(you’d always put the blame on her)
you didn't think anyone could see
the things that you would get up to
(all the things you’d get up to)
but I always kept one eye on you
I just knew that’s what you’d do

you'd stroll away off to the bar
make out like you're a movie star
I knew, I knew that’s what you’d do

you gambled everything on crap games
(threw away all that you had)
promised she'd be drenched in fame
you said her name would be in bright lights
(made a claim that was not right)
to all the girls you did the same
I just knew that’s what you’d do

you even went down on one knee
I'm not impressed with what I've seen
I knew that’s what you’d do

about

Deaf Steever Winnipeg, Manitoba

I try to come up with ideas and riffs that catch my ear, and then I piece 'em together until something (hopefully) slightly catchy and coherent emerges. I reckon that sums up my approach to songwriting. :-)

"Well, sir, I just make it sound like I think it ought to." - Mississippi John Hurt, when asked how he created his songs.

Cheers from Winnipeg, Canada, y'all! Go, Jets, go!!!
