about

For FAWM 2013, encouraged by some of my co-workers, I wrote a song called "The Gashlycrumb Tinies" using the text of Edward Gorey's poem of the same name. The end result was fine, I thought, but I knew that eventually new lyrics would have to be written for it to truly be MY song. Plus, I reckoned whoever owned the copyright for Gorey's poem would frown on my using the text verbatim. In fact, for my You Tube channel, I made a little video for the song - and it didn't take long for Gorey's reps to file a take-down notice! Enter manchini, a FAWMer from England! About a month ago, out of the blue, he messaged me with new lyrics and asked if I'd be interested in using them. I was. Voila! So it's not entirely a brand new song, but it kinda is. So there you go. hehe

lyrics

You were the wonder I had waited for.
I held your hand, while you closed the door.

You were so charming and so incorrect.
Too good to be true: what did I expect?

You don't have to tell me our interests align.
You have so many choices; you never decide.

Why did you think I'd be alright with this?
Tied me to you & then jumped in the abyss.

You don't have to tell me I'm going away.
Don't press that button and don't make me wait.

I've learned my lesson, I'll never repeat.
Always fight fire with flames of deceit.

Then we were there, just like now we are here.
Trying to work out the things we will be.

Weren't we perfect, for ever and more?
I held your gaze, while you closed the door.

about

Deaf Steever Winnipeg, Manitoba

I try to come up with ideas and riffs that catch my ear, and then I piece 'em together until something (hopefully) slightly catchy and coherent emerges. I reckon that sums up my approach to songwriting. :-)

"Well, sir, I just make it sound like I think it ought to." - Mississippi John Hurt, when asked how he created his songs.

Cheers from Winnipeg, Canada, y'all! Go, Jets, go!!!
