about

Last year, I collaborated with Arthur Rossi on a song and enjoyed the process so much, I asked him if he wished to collab again. :-) Like last year, our modus operandi was: I sent Arthur a rough demo of me playing my song idea (humming the melody - wordlessly - while playing guitar), and he took that and wrote corresponding lyrics. And just like last year, Arthur wrote THREE top-notch sets of lyrics, any one of which would have been worthy. However, something about "You Don't Know" resonated with me - and in fact, Arthur's words made me totally change the rhythm and feel of the tune (the demo I'd sent him was light and fluffy, more like a sprightly fingerpicked folk song). Ah, the magic of collaboration!

lyrics

You’re so cute and sweet,
I feel how my heart beats
twice that fast whenever you are here,
you are my secret dear,
and you don’t know…

Since my teenage-days,
in so, so many ways
I fell for your words and your smile,
you make me feel alive
as just you know…

(Chorus)
We’re like a body and a soul,
and yet I did not tell you all
do I still have to say?
You’re my love
from my teenage days…

We are best friends,
that’s true, but then again
some secrets could destroy it all,
and we would pay the toll,
which you don’t know…

I don’t know, that’s odd,
we want more than what we’ve got
friendship is like love without wings
that’s among all the things
what you should know…

(Chorus)
We’re like a body and a soul,
and yet I did not tell you all…
do I still have to say?
You’re my love
from my teenage days…

I won’t insist,
it’s okay as it is
as friendships last for a whole life,
unlike husbands and wives,
but you don’t know…

about

Deaf Steever Winnipeg, Manitoba

I try to come up with ideas and riffs that catch my ear, and then I piece 'em together until something (hopefully) slightly catchy and coherent emerges. I reckon that sums up my approach to songwriting. :-)

"Well, sir, I just make it sound like I think it ought to." - Mississippi John Hurt, when asked how he created his songs.

Cheers from Winnipeg, Canada, y'all! Go, Jets, go!!!
